Byron Nemeth has been working as a session guitarist ,
sideman and leader on the Cleveland music scene since the
1980s. He's a player cut from the same cloth as Joe Satriani ,
Jason Becker and Steve Vai, with several independent releases
to his credit.

On his latest the music is as you 'd expect - straight-ahead
prog rock with stinging sustained leads, strong melodies and
immaculate production. His crack band consists of Joe
Hengesbaugh on keyboards, Dave Clark on drums and Ed
Stephens on bass. While they 're all consummate soloists, the
emphasis is clearly on band interplay and service to the
material.

Highlights include the cleverly titled "Satrianimal," with its
catchy hooks and relentless drive, the title track 's austere and
majestic presence, Hengesbaugh 's exceptional keyboard
orchestrations on "Chocolate Factory," and the dueling keys and
fretwork of "Frankenstein's Lullaby."

There are some nice departures in the action with a jazzy
contribution by trumpeter Dominick Farinacci on "I Don't Mind "
and string arrangements and accompaniment by Joe Deninzon
on their version of the Beatles' "I am the Walrus ." - Eric

BNG "THE FORCE WITHIN" CD Baby Review - Saturday, March 3rd 2007 Derek Sivers, President

If I'm ever in the position of having to legitimize my infatuation with old David Lee Roth records, my explanation always hinges on two words: Steve Vai. In these modern times, when virtuoso guitar mavens like Vai seem to have been swept under the rug, it's nice to hear a group like this one keeping the hope alive. Beginning with the aptly named "Satrianimal" (by far the shortest track at just under 4 minutes), this four piece never lets up, blazing through 9 epic (most around the 8 minute mark) instrumental pieces, all ripe with guitar heroism and handled with impressive tact and precision.

The songs are ambitious and widespread in their structure, but also wise enough to avoid the self-indulgent trappings that can easily mar this style of music. The most welcome surprise hereis the closer, a forward thinking cover of "I Am The Walrus" that manages to be powerfully streamlined while still paying honest homage to the original composition. If you're a fan of epic guitar rock that shuns trends and follows the music, this is it.
